Azim Premji Foundation to train model school teachers as ‘changemakers’

Ranchi, October 27: Jharkhand government has tied up with Azim Premji Foundation to mentor headmasters and senior teachers of model schools, a pet project of chief minister Hemant Soren.

Incidentally, model schools concept of Hemant Soren will see over 400 schools across Jharkhand offering education at par with best CBSE pattern reputed chain of schools.

Through the ambitious model school program which is also known as schools of excellence, the government is giving necessary impetus to the secondary and higher secondary level of education and is all set to project teachers of these institutions as “Changemakers” of the society.

The Azim Premji Foundation is providing training to headmasters and teachers of the model schools. In this regard a comprehensive action plan has been prepared through which special attention is to be given to subjects like English, Science, Mathematics, Social Science and Hindi in the due course of training of the teachers.

The Department of School Education and Literacy is collaborating with the Azim model school’s headmasters, DIET faculty, subject specific master trainers and other key stakeholders.

It is to be noted that the principals and teachers of these schools are also receiving their training from eminent institutions like the IIM Ranchi.

The program will provide training through a series of workshops for around four thousand model schools in the state with an aim to create an effective ecosystem and provide better education to the children of the state.

In the first phase of the training, the Azim Premji Foundation has designed a 10-month comprehensive training program with the Principals of 80 schools identified as “Changemakers” to develop a better vision for the schools, raising the standards of education, enhancement of leadership skills so as to provide quality education to the children, development of learning culture, creation of learning environment, etc.

Capacity building workshops for stakeholders have been planned in the coming months in addition to 10-months of training. Through this, subject expertise of teachers, teaching at secondary and senior secondary level will be identified. Comprehensive capacity building programme will be organized for 150 DIET faculties, which will include visualisation and job description of the DIETs. Under this scheme a total of three workshops will be organised every 5 days. These workshops will be conducted with an aim to develop the capacity of 200 subject specific master trainers of English, Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi and Science.
