Palamau: In a significant breakthrough, the police have apprehended Neeraj Mehta, a resident of Darudih village, in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Chinta Devi from Khamdih. The chilling incident occurred in the Kukurmurwa forest, under the jurisdiction of the Lavalong police station.
During the investigation, a blood-stained stone believed to be the murder weapon was discovered at the scene. SDPO Ashok Kumar Priyadarshi shared these details in a press conference held at his office on Sunday. The victim, Chinta Devi, wife of Anil Mehta and mother of three, was found dead in the Kukurmurwa forest on October 29.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the directives of the Superintendent of Police to delve into the matter. The initial findings indicated a two-year-long love affair between Neeraj Mehta and Chinta Devi. The deceased had reportedly given Rs 60 thousand to Neeraj through the Mahila Mandal, pressuring him to marry her. The accused, distressed by this demand, allegedly lured Chinta Devi into the dense forest of Kukurmarwa valley, where he, along with an accomplice, brutally murdered her using a stone to avoid identification
