Newborn trafficking scandal unearthed, five arrested

Giridih: In a disturbing revelation, police apprehended five individuals on Monday, accusing them of involvement in the illicit sale of a newborn child. The arrested suspects are identified as Gudiya Devi (husband Shailesh Yadav), Sahiya Chandrawati Devi, Sahiya Gudiyakumari, Birendra Kumar Jha, and Ranjan Jha, all residents of Sihodihki in the Mofussil police station area.

According to the Mofussil police station, the investigation began after receiving confidential information on November 30. The tip suggested that Gudiya Devi’s newborn, born at Chaitadih Sadar Hospital, had been taken away by Sahiya Gudiya Didi and Sahiya Chandrikadevi. Subsequently, a case was registered, and a thorough investigation was initiated.

It was revealed during the investigation that Gudiya Devi had allegedly sold her newborn for one lakh rupees. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, an investigative team was assembled by the District Social Welfare Officer.
The shocking details brought to light a network involved in the trafficking operation. The primary individuals implicated include Gudiya Devi, ambulance driver Rajesh Barnwal alias Guddu, Sahiyachandravati Devi, Sahiya Gudiya Kumari, and Deepak Kumar alias Aman Anand. Additionally, ambulance driver Rajesh Kumar from Bokaro district KBGH and Birendra Jha were arrested in close proximity to Chaitadih Hospital.

All five accused, linked to the trading of Gudiya Devi’s own child for a sum of one lakh rupees, have been arrested by the police and subsequently remanded to jail. The case has sparked widespread concern and prompted authorities to delve deeper into the nefarious activities of the newborn trafficking ring.
