Anandpur villagers threaten agitation against tribal land �encroachment�

Jamshedpur: District JMM vice president of Seraikela-Kharsawan, Maheshwar Mahato, on Wednesday threatened to launch a massive agitation against private companies constructing residential complexes and commercial buildings in Anandpur under ward I of Adityapur Municipal Corporation.

Addressing a meeting of local villagers at Adityapur football ground, Mahato said the land in Anandpur cannot be used by any private company as it would be violation of Schedule V of the Constitution. He said the tribal land cannot be occupied for residential or commercial use without the permission of the Gram Sabha. He said the district administration should initiate legal action against any such company for encroaching the tribal land. He said the companies building complexes on tribal land should leave space for thoroughfare and should also provide the right of way to the Adivasis having land nearby.

Among others present during the meeting included Shyam Sardar, Mochiram Sardar, Shyam Mahato, Jugal Sardar, Ishwar Nath Chalak and Padmini Sardar.
