Jamshedpur: The AJSU Student Union executed a lockout at the Kolhan University branch office on Thursday, accompanied by vocal demonstrations by union members. Hemant Pathak, the President of AJSU Student Union in Kolhan, stated that a persistent demand had been made over several days to extend the registration date for first-year UG students.
Representatives from Workers College, LBSM College, Co-operative College, and Graduate College conveyed the union’s plea to the Kolhan University administration, seeking an extension of the registration date. Regrettably, the university did not address or acknowledge the demand. Consequently, the union took the decision to stage a lockout, emphasizing that numerous students across various colleges were being denied registration despite having paid the requisite fees.
Hemant highlighted that the university had already collected registration fees and documents online before the enrollment process. The university’s rationale for pre-emptive registration was based on the argument that some students fail to attend college after admission, and early registration helps prevent any oversight.
During the lockout, slogans were raised, and notable figures such as Saheb Bagti, Rajesh Mahato, Kundan Yadav, Tania Singh, Gulshan Ara, Gopal Nayak, Nisha Parveen, Riya Sharma, Chanchal Kumari, Mali Kumari, Nandani Kumari, Rupa Kumari, Anita Kumari, Ashutosh Kumar, Harpreet Singh, and others were present to support the union’s cause. The lockout is seen as a symbolic protest to draw attention to the plight of students facing registration issues despite fulfilling the necessary requirements.
