Elderly woman loses both legs in trailer collision, road blocked for five hours

Chandil: In a devastating incident near Pilid village of Ichagarh police station on the Rangamati-Silli road, an uncontrolled trailer struck a 65-year-old woman, resulting in the loss of both her legs. Mukut Devi, a resident of Pilid village, was crossing the road when the trailer, moving without control, collided with her. The impact caused the woman to fall, and the trailer’s wheel tragically severed both of her legs.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Ichagarh police station promptly arrived at the scene, assisted by local residents. The injured woman was swiftly admitted to a nearby private nursing home for urgent medical attention. Villagers, reacting to the severity of the accident, intercepted the trailer attempting to flee the scene and handed it over to the police.

Following the tragic event, angered locals staged a roadblock, demanding the installation of a speed breaker at the accident-prone spot on the Rangamati-Silli road. Responding to the villagers’ outcry, the road construction company swiftly constructed a speed breaker at the specified location. Notably, this area near the intersection of Pilid village has witnessed three fatalities in road accidents in the past. Despite repeated pleas from villagers for the installation of speed breakers to enhance road safety, their requests were consistently overlooked.
