AJSU Party questions frequent traffic checks within 2 km radius in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The AJSU Party has intensified its campaign against the alleged misconduct and overreach of the city’s traffic police. On the fifth day of the campaign, led by district secretary Sachin Prasad, district president Kanhaiya Singh inaugurated the program at Kashidih Chowk and urged citizens to support the movement.

Singh alleged that the traffic police have been harassing commuters by setting up checking points at six different spots within just two kilometres. “Which law allows vehicle checking every 100 meters? Under what regulation are home guards authorized to check documents?” he questioned.

He further accused traffic officers of arrogance and mistreatment of the public. “The overwhelming public support has strengthened our resolve. This campaign will not stop,” Singh declared.

Zila Parishad member Kusum Purty, attending as a guest, supported the movement. “We’ve been receiving complaints about traffic police highhandedness. The AJSU Party has rightfully turned this into a public campaign. I fully support it and urge the Chief Minister to reform traffic police practices,” she said.

Among the prominent attendees were social worker and former Zila Parishad member Rana De, Panchayat committee member Shweta Jain and several others from civil society and the party’s leadership.

Traffic checks meant to line officers’ pockets: AJSU Party

Jamshedpur: Continuing their protest against the traffic police’s conduct, AJSU Party held the sixth edition of its signature campaign at Baridih Chowk on Sunday, led by Rajesh Chaudhary and Chandan Singh.

District president Kanhaiya Singh alleged that vehicle checking, helmet inspections and seatbelt enforcement are being misused for extortion. “Such aggressive checks aren’t seen in neighbouring districts, raising suspicion that senior officers here are complicit and benefiting financially. Jamshedpur is a working-class city; harassing workers in the name of document checks is unacceptable,” Singh stated.

He added that the collected signatures would be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner to be forwarded to the Chief Minister. “If our voices aren’t heard, we will take to the streets in protest,” he warned.

Executive President Sanjay Malakar said, “We will not stop until the traffic police change their behaviour.”

The event saw participation from party leaders and supporters, including Sanjay Malakar, Ajay Singh (Babu), Chandrashekhar Pandey, Mritunjay Singh, Shailendra Sinha and others, indicating growing momentum in the party’s campaign against traffic-related harassment.
