Claims family of wife is forcing religious conversion; appeals to City SP for protection

Jamshedpur: Yashwant Kumar, a resident of Sopodera in Parsudih police station area, approached the City SP on Saturday seeking justice and protection. Yashwant revealed that he had married Shahista Parveen from Mango’s Azad Basti on June 18, 2021, at the Sakchi Sheetla Temple. Since their marriage, Parveen’s family has been threatening him and pressuring him to convert to Islam.

Despite submitting a written complaint at Parsudih police station, Yashwant claimed no action had been taken. He was allegedly told by the station in charge, “Why did you marry a Muslim girl?” Yashwant expressed his fear for his life, stating, “They could kill me. My wife is also being manipulated against me.” He mentioned that his wife had been harassed at Mango police station by her family before. “We married of our own free will and now my wife is being coerced to speak against my religion,” he said. Yashwant is seeking police protection amid escalating threats.
