Air quality levels in Jamshedpur under scanner, team visits Tata Steel, Tata Power, Tata Motors, and Nuvoco Cement Plant

Jamshedpur: Following the instructions of Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal, a dedicated team was constituted to investigate pollution levels in key industrial zones of the city. The team visited Tata Steel, Tata Power, Tata Motors, and Nuvoco Cement Plant, along with their surrounding areas, to assess air quality conditions and monitor AQI (Air Quality Index) levels.

The three-member team, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner  Bhagirath Prasad, comprises Deputy Municipal Commissioner of JNAC,  Krishna Kumar, and Regional Officer of the Jharkhand Pollution Board,  Rampravesh Kumar. Their primary objective was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of air quality in these industrial regions, which are among the major contributors to environmental pollution in the city.

During their visit, the team deployed advanced air monitoring equipment at various locations to collect real-time data on particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and other key pollutants. They also engaged with plant officials and environmental compliance teams to understand the emission control measures in place and their effectiveness in curbing pollution levels.

The investigation comes amid growing concerns over deteriorating air quality in Jamshedpur, particularly in industrial areas where emissions from factories, vehicular traffic, and construction activities contribute significantly to pollution. The authorities are keen on identifying specific sources of pollution and recommending mitigation measures to improve environmental sustainability in the region.

Additional Deputy Commissioner  Bhagirath Prasad emphasized that the findings of this investigation will play a crucial role in formulating effective policies to tackle air pollution. “The administration is committed to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents of Jamshedpur. Based on the assessment, necessary actions will be taken to control pollution and enforce compliance with environmental regulations,” he stated.

The final report, once compiled, will be submitted to the District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner for review. Following this, appropriate measures will be implemented based on the findings, which may include stricter emission norms for industries, enhanced pollution control measures, and increased monitoring of AQI levels.

Residents and environmental activists have welcomed this initiative, urging authorities to take strict actions against violators and introduce long-term solutions to curb industrial pollution. With a proactive approach from the district administration, the city hopes to witness significant improvements in air quality in the coming months.

The pollution control team will continue its inspections and monitoring activities to ensure that industries adhere to prescribed environmental standards, thereby safeguarding public health and ecological balance.
