Against 67.19% in 2019, voter turnout surges to 67.68% in Jamshedpur

Ranchi, May 26: On Sunday, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar addressed the media at Nirvachan Sadan, disclosing the voting percentages for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Jharkhand. Kumar revealed that the voter turnout stood at 65.40%, with expectations of a slight increase post the counting of postal ballots on the designated counting day. He reassured the public that all Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been securely sealed in the strong room following thorough scrutiny. The strong room is being vigilantly monitored by CCTV cameras, ensuring three-tier security measures. Kumar also emphasized the peaceful conduct of the sixth phase of voting.

Jamshedpur Parliamentary Constituency recorded the highest voter turnout, with 67.68% of eligible voters exercising their franchise. Notably, male voters slightly outnumbered female voters by 0.38%, with 67.87% of men and 67.49% of women casting their votes.

In Ranchi Parliamentary Constituency, 65.36% of voters participated in the electoral process. While male voters exhibited a slightly higher turnout at 65.53%, female voters closely followed with a turnout of 65.20%, resulting in a marginal difference of 0.33%.

Giridih Parliamentary Constituency witnessed a robust voter turnout of 67.23%. Interestingly, female voters surpassed male voters, with 69.60% of women and 65.00% of men exercising their voting rights. This gender disparity amounted to 4.60% more women voters compared to men.

Similarly, in Dhanbad Parliamentary Constituency, 62.06% of voters participated in the electoral process. Female voters displayed higher participation, with 62.33% turning up to vote, while 61.82% of male voters exercised their franchise. This translated to a 0.51% higher turnout among women compared to men.

Since the initiation of the Model Code of Conduct, illegal materials and cash amounting to over Rs 129 crore have been confiscated in Jharkhand. (w/nkm)
