Jamshedpur: State Food Minister cum MLA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Roy here on Saturday directed the East Singhbhum district administration to take stringent action against persons obstructing water supply during festivals and summer season.
He asked the deputy commissioner Amit Kumar to implement laws applicable to Essential Commodities on water.
Roy said the demands of the contract workers of the Mango drinking water department would be fulfilled only when they take the right recourse and do not cross the limits set by law and humanity. He praised the district administration for taking prompt steps to bring the agitation to an end.
The minister said the electricity department was under pressure in view of the summer season. He said the festivals of Chaitra Chhath and Ramnavami did not warrant irresponsible and inhuman behavior of the contract workers of the drinking water department.
�I have directed the district administration to keep a back-up plan for exigency situations so that strict action may be taken against the agitators in case they try to play spoilsport,� Roy said.
The minister said there were people who helped others by offering cold drinking water during the summer season. Still there are other type of people who try to disrupt smooth water supply, he said.
