Administration to book encroachers of Marine Drive

Jamshedpur: District administration of East Singhbhum is all set to take legal action against encroachers in Marine Drive area and other localities of the city. Criminal cases will be lodged against the culprits on the basis of evidence collected against them, sources said.

District administration sources said a study of rules and documents related to ownership or tenancy of households in the locality was on. Once proof is collected against encroachers, criminal proceedings will be initiated against them by the district administration.

It may be mentioned here that the district administration had launched an anti-encroachment drive in Marine Drive Busti in Sonari and Kadma some three years ago to pave way for the completion of the Western Corridor project. The encroachers were asked to move over to some other place. But still many families did not budge. Now around 140 families are living in the area.

Administration officials want to take stringent measures to make sure that the encroachers do not go back to the same place causing problems for them again and again. For this purpose, records of land have sought from Dhanbad district.

Sources said the anti-encroachment may be launched after 2nd May. The district administration had fixed a period from 28th April till 4th May for removing the encroachment. The plan has been temporarily called off. Magistrates were already deputed for the purpose, sources said.
