Jamshedpur: A mob of students comprising members and supporters of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today created ruckus in Abdul Bari Memorial College, Golmuri, over the issue of replacement of a water cooler.
The students created hullaballoo when they found a water cooler kept in the college to be not functioning. They took the cooler in front of the administrative block of the college and raised slogans against the college administration. They alleged that the college had done nothing to replace the cooler. They said the students should be provided adequate facilities by the college administration so that they may study comfortably.
Golmuri police reached the scene later and arrested two ABVP members. Dr AK Mahapatra, secretary of ABM College Teachers� Association, and Ramesh Chandra Thakur, secretary of the employees� union of the college condemned the incident.
After the incident, a meeting was held during which the college teachers and staff unanimously decided to continue coordination among themselves on development and other issues.
The ABVP members said the college lacked basic amenities for students. They said the college principal should take every possible step to ensure improvement in the available facilities.
The ruckus turned violent when some of the protestors tried to attack the college principal and other staff. The college authorities informed the police and sought protection.
