8 new Corona positives in Jharkhand, first in Gumla and West Singhbhum up state tally to 231

Ranchi, May 18: After eight more persons tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, the total number of coronavirus cases in Jharkhand rose to 231, said officials.

“8 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported today in Jharkhand. Total positive cases in the state rise to 231 now,” said State Health Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni. Two cases have been reported from Latehar while one case each came up from Dhanbad, Garhwa, Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum), Chaibasa, Gumla and Hazaribagh. The contact details and travel history of all the eight positives is been looked up by the district officials. West Singhbhum district became the 18th district to infected from the virus while cases rose to five in Jamshedpur.   The steel city on Monday reported a fifth Covid-19 positive case. The man who has been tested for coronavirus positive had returned from Ranchi via truck. He directly got himself admitted at MGM Medical College and Hospital and was in the isolation ward ever since returning here and finally his swab test was tested positive. The person is a resident of Sidhgora. A senior district official confirmed about the detection of the new case, and confirmed that the person tested Covid positive is a resident of the steel city.

“The man who has been tested for coronavirus positive on Monday afternoon is a resident of steel city and had returned from Ranchi on May 15. He didn�t go to his house but rather went directly to the hospital for test.  He was in the isolation ward of the MGM Medical College Hospital ever since returning here and finally his swab test was tested positive,” said the official.

He informed the patient in question has been shifted from the medical college hospital’s isolation ward to the TMH’s Covid ward late in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the first positive case of Covid-19 has also been reported from West Singhbhum at Chaibasa. The youth is of 22 year old and had returned from Chennai on May 14.

19 districts out of 24 in the state have been infected with COVID19 with Gumla, East Singhbhum, Latehar, Lohardaga and Ramgarh district being the recent entry in the list. All new samples tested positive are of the migrants and stranded labourers.

Out of 231 positive cases so far, 104 are from Ranchi, 29 from Garhwa, 10 from Bokaro, 15 from Palamau, 10 from Giridih, five from Deoghar, six from Dhanbad, six from Koderma, 26 from Hazaribagh,  five from East Singhbhum, three each from Latehar, Jamtara, Simdega, Ramgarh and Dumka. One person each from West Singhbhum, Gumla, Godda and Lohardaga has also tested positive for coronavirus.

Capital Ranchi accounts for 104 out of a total of 231 Covid cases. The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel. Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far.

The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.
