76% voting in 97 booths in Gamharia Block

Gamharia, May 12: Ninety seven polling booths in Gamharia Block which falls under the Singhbhum Lok Sabha constituency, recorded an all time high of 76 percent voting today. Voting was peaceful as now untoward incident was reported from any booth.

Voters started queuing up at booths from 6 am onwards. Voters showed great zeal while participating in the Mega Festival of Democracy especially the youth and the first time voters. The booths were manned heavily by police and BSF personnel to ensure peaceful voting. A special Block flying squad too kept an eye on the poll proceedings.

Polling which began at 7 am recorded seven percent voting in the first two hours. By midday, the figure swelled to 45 percent. However, polling slowed down a bit later due to the scorching noon sun.

Special arrangements had been made for the convenience of physically challenged voters. They were carried in wheelchairs. BLO and other booth workers helped these special people to cast their votes.

The fate of all the nine candidates for the Singhbhum LS seat has now been locked in the EVMs and will be revealed on May 23.
