Jamshedpur, March 23: A two-day national workshop marking World Meteorological Day commenced at Karim City College, Sakchi, under the aegis of the Postgraduate Department of Chemistry. Centered on the theme of climate change, the workshop aims to foster deeper awareness and informed dialogue on one of the most pressing global challenges of our time. The event will conclude on Tuesday.
The workshop brings together academicians, scientists, and students to deliberate on the causes and consequences of climate change, environmental sustainability, global warming, and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. It also emphasizes the crucial role of individuals and institutions in driving climate action.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Tapan Kumar Shankar, Assistant Professor at G H Raisoni University, Amravati, highlighted the alarming rise in carbon dioxide emissions as a primary driver of climate change. Through a detailed presentation, he explained how the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases is contributing to global temperature rise, leading to adverse environmental impacts that pose serious concerns for the future.
Earlier, the Principal of the college, Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, formally welcomed the guests, faculty members, and students. Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Mudila Dhananjay Rai, scientist and professor at the National Metallurgical Laboratory; Basant Shubhankar of K S College, Seraikela; and Dr. Ale Ali of Karim City College, who shared their insights on various aspects of climate change and sustainability.
The workshop is being organized under the supervision of Dr. Khursheed Anwar, Head of the Department of Chemistry. At the end of the first day, the workshop coordinator Alijan Hussain delivered the vote of thanks.
The event also witnessed the presence of Faculty In-Charge Dr. Tufail Ahmad and College Secretary Dr. Mohammad Zakaria, adding to the significance of the academic gathering.
