65 year-old drowns in Swarnarekha

Jamshedpur, Sep 9: A 65 year old man, identified as Ramchandra Soy, drowned in Swarnarekha river at Tumangdungri under Maubhandar OP area on Thursday. His body was recovered from the river here on Friday. It was sent to MGM Medical College for postmortem examination.

Sources said Soy had gone to bathe in the river yesterday evening. When he failed to return, his family members searched for him. After several hours of search, local villagers found his body floating in the river.

Police said the death was caused by accidental drowning.

Woman burnt while cooking, serious

Jamshedpur, Sep 9: One Seema Gagrai was burnt while cooking in Kolchakra village of Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum here on Friday. She was taken to Sadar Hospital, Chakradharpur, where she was referred to MGM Hospital for better treatment. Her husband Rameshwar Gagrai said his wife was cooking in the morning when a kerosene gallon fell upon the stove. Seema’s clothes caught fire and she started screaming. Her condition was reportedly serious, sources said.

Two injured in highway mishap

Jamshedpur, Sep 9: Two persons were injured in a road accident on the National Highway 33 near Narga under MGM police station area on Friday. They were identified as Kalipado Mahato and Nazir Mahato, both residents of Bangdih village of Galudih. They had reportedly gone to Dobapani village and were returning home when they were hit by a Tata Magic vehicle at high speed. They sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital by local villagers.

Woman gets electric shock in Mango

Jamshedpur, Sep 9: A woman, identified as Shanti Devi, resident of Kumrum Basti, fell unconscious after suffering from electric shock in her locality on Friday. She was taken to MGM Hospital where her condition was reportedly out of danger. Her finger was burnt in the incident, sources said.

Local residents put up a demonstration to protest against the incident and demanded replacement of electric poles in the locality. They were led by BJP leader Vikas Singh.
