Adityapur: The 36th Under-9 Boys and Girls National Chess Championship commenced at Wave International on Thursday. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by various dignitaries, including Vidyut Varan Mahato, Member of Parliament for Jamshedpur; Naresh Sharma, Treasurer of the All India Chess Federation; Dr. Pradeep Verma, President of the State Chess Association; Richa Sanchita, Executive President; Manish Kumar, Secretary; Manoj Kumar, President of the District Chess Association, and other executive members.

This championship features a total of 368 participants from all across the country, with 256 players in the boys’ category and 116 in the girls’ category. The competition will span 11 rounds to determine the winners, who will earn nominations for the upcoming Asiad Games. The prominent speakers at the event offered words of encouragement to the players and expressed their gratitude to the District Chess Association for the successful organization of the competition.

During the event, it was announced that the District Chess Association would launch the “Chess for Tribes” project to introduce the game to tribal communities, with the first school to be established in Hathimara village.

The event received support from the district administration, including security forces, a medical team, fire-fighting vehicles, and transportation services for participants. Additionally, NIT students have contributed to the smooth execution of the competition.
