Gunshots Rock Adityapur: Criminals Target BJP Leader’s Home

Jamshedpur: Unidentified criminals opened fire at the residence of BJP leader Sapan Kumar Das on Tuesday morning, sending fear and tension through the Saldih Basti locality near the ESI Hospital. This brazen attack has raised serious concerns over public safety in the industrial township.

The attackers struck at approximately 6:55 am as residents began their day. CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts show two armed assailants approaching the house and firing three rounds at a window. A third accomplice reportedly waited nearby on a scooty to facilitate their escape.

Inside the home, Sapan Das and his family were performing their morning routines. Although the gunfire caused no injuries, the sudden shots triggered panic throughout the neighborhood, forcing residents to take cover.

Police Launch Investigation

The building’s CCTV cameras captured the entire sequence—the approach, the shooting, and the getaway. These visuals now serve as the primary evidence for the police investigation.

After tenants alerted him, Sapan Das immediately called the Adityapur police. A responding police team recovered two empty cartridges from the scene and has initiated a forensic examination.

“Investigators are closely examining the CCTV footage and exploring all possible angles, including personal rivalry and intimidation,” stated a senior police officer.

While preliminary inputs suggest the involvement of local elements, authorities have not yet made any arrests.

Community Reaction and Security Concerns

Sapan Kumar Das maintains a significant profile in the region through his work with the Shri Shri Janmashtami Puja Samiti and Agardoot Sangh. This targeted attack has sparked speculation that the gunmen intended to warn or intimidate him.

The incident once again highlights the deteriorating law and order situation in Adityapur. Angry and fearful residents pointed out that previous crimes, such as the firing in the Chunabhatta area, remain unresolved. One local resident noted that an attack on a prominent figure in broad daylight raises serious questions about the safety of ordinary citizens.

While police have intensified patrolling and promised a swift arrest, a deep sense of unease remains, underscoring the urgent need for stronger preventive measures.
