National Seminar ‘Behind The Teacher’s Desk’ concludes at CSIR-NML

Jamshedpur, June 19: The three-day national seminar “Behind the Teacher’s Desk (BTTD 2026)” concluded on Friday with an industrial visit to some of Jamshedpur’s leading industrial establishments. The visit provided participants with practical exposure to industrial operations and reinforced the seminar’s objective of connecting classroom teaching with real-world industrial practices.

As the concluding event of the seminar, the industrial tour offered participants a unique opportunity to observe the functioning of large-scale industries in Jamshedpur, widely known as the Steel City of India. The visit complemented the technical sessions held during the seminar by demonstrating the practical application of scientific principles, engineering concepts, and modern industrial technologies.

More than 160 delegates, including faculty members, researchers, students, and industry professionals from across the country, participated in the programme. The participants visited major industrial establishments such as Tinplate, Tata Steel, CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), and TSG Gamharia. During the visit, they gained valuable insights into manufacturing processes, quality control systems, automation technologies, research and development facilities, workplace safety measures, and industrial management practices.

The industrial tour was planned and executed under the leadership of Dr. Chiradeep Ghosh, Principal Scientist, Tata Steel and Chairman of BTTD 2026, and Lalit Kumar Meena, Principal Scientist, CSIR-NML and Convener of the seminar. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Aditya Prakash, Senior Researcher, Tata Steel. Their efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the visit and provided participants with a meaningful learning experience.

The initiative received appreciation from senior members of the scientific and industrial community. Dr. Atanu Ranjan Pal, CTO, Tata Steel and Chairman of the IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, and Dr. Gopi Kishore Mondal, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML and Vice-Chairman of BTTD 2026, congratulated the organizing team for successfully conducting the programme and promoting experiential learning through industry-academia collaboration.

Following the industrial tour, all participants assembled at CSIR-NML for a networking lunch, where they interacted with fellow delegates, organizers, and industry experts. The programme concluded with a structured feedback session during which participants shared their observations and experiences from the visit.

Industrial exposure of this nature plays a crucial role in complementing academic instruction by enabling participants to witness the practical application of scientific knowledge in operational environments. Through direct interaction with industrial processes and infrastructure, participants developed a deeper understanding of production systems, technological innovations, operational efficiency, quality assurance, sustainability practices, and the evolving challenges faced by modern industries. The experience significantly strengthened the seminar’s overarching objective of promoting meaningful knowledge exchange between academia and industry while preparing young researchers and future professionals for industry-oriented challenges.
