Jamshedpur, Apr 14: In a move to ease traffic congestion and clear public spaces, the district police have initiated the process to remove over a thousand seized vehicles lying outside police stations across the city. For the first time in 40 years, authorities are preparing to auction the confiscated vehicles that have long been creating obstructions and posing safety risks on the roads near police stations.

According to official data, a total of 1,136 vehicles are currently seized across 27 police stations in the district. Of these, court proceedings have been completed for 120 two-wheelers and 57 four-wheelers, while cases involving 555 two-wheelers and 252 four-wheelers are still pending. Additionally, 135 two-wheelers and 17 four-wheelers have been recovered as unclaimed and have no known heirs—making them eligible for immediate auction after due legal process.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal stated, “A list of vehicles confiscated in police stations has been sought. After the list is received, a summary of disposed and pending cases will be prepared. With the court’s permission, the vehicles will be auctioned.”

The accumulation of seized vehicles outside police stations such as Mango, Sakchi, Sitaramdera, Sidgora, Sundernagar and Kadma has been a persistent issue, often resulting in daily traffic jams and difficulties for pedestrians. In front of Sakchi Police Station, trailers and trucks have been blocking the main gate for years, while at Sitaramdera, buses, cars and bikes occupy the entire stretch of road, increasing the risk of accidents. Similar conditions prevail outside Sundernagar and Kadma stations, where vehicles are not only stacked dangerously but also contribute to chronic congestion.

With this long-overdue initiative, the district police aim to restore order around police premises and ensure safer roads for the public.
