1 Railway employee killed, another injured in Maoist landmine blast

Jamshedpur, August 3: Railway employees performing their duty came under the grip of landmine explosion laid by the Naxalites.

These railway employees came under the Naxalite explosion on Sunday morning in Bimalgarh railway section of South-East Railway Chakradharpur Railway Division.

One trackman died in the blast, while another was seriously injured. This incident happened in the Odisha-Jharkhand border area when two railway workers Etawa Oram (58) and Budhram Munda were patrolling the track during the Naxalite bandh. Meanwhile, the bomb planted by the Naxalites exploded with a loud bang. It is known that the Naxalite bandh was called by the Naxalites.

After the blast near the railway track by the Naxalites, both the injured railway workers were brought to the Bandamunda Railway Hospital in a critical condition. Doctors started examining them in the railway hospital but Etawa Oram died. Doctors declared Etawa Oram dead. At the same time, Budhram has been referred to Rourkela for better treatment.

It is being told that the Naxalites had already registered their presence in the area by putting up red banners and in the morning they blew up the track by carrying out another explosion, despite this, the RPF sent the personnel on patrolling without properly checking the track.

Questions are being raised on the railway administration regarding this negligence. Divisional Convenor of South East Railway Men’s Congress Shashi Mishra has called it a serious lapse and has demanded to ensure the safety of railway workers.
