Youths pick up 1200 discarded flags from Steel city streets after R-Day

Jamshedpur, Jan. 28: Steel city celebrated Republic day with fervor on Thursday and tricolour was hoisted at different locations of the city but as the day passed by in a big insult to national flags they were spotted at sewer, roads and dustbins.

A youth team of ‘Voice of Humanity’ collected 1200 flags from all around the city and later paid respect to the tricolour during a programme held at Bistupur.

Citizens gathered at the venue, sang national anthem and saluted the discarded national flags. The team appealed the citizens saying that tricolour is not peace of colored paper it’s a symbol of national respect and pride and one must not throw it in dustbins. Our national flag deserves a much better treatment.

It if we don’t respect it, who will?. The team members had collected 4000 flags after the Independence day celebration in the year 2016.

Patron of team ‘Voice of Humanity’, Hari Singh, said, compared to last year the number of flags lying down has decreased and people are slowly getting aware and flags for decoration has been used in only some places. Singh further said that the team had launched awareness campaign which ran for ten days ahead of Republic Day at different schools, colleges, markets and government institutions.

To make the event successful, Hari Singh, Mahesh Mohan, Vimal, Rahul, Sudhanshu, Ashutosh, Nisar, Vijay, Udhyan, Subhojeet, Ravi Sahankar, Amit and others played a vital role.
