Jamshedpur, Aug 2: A 25 year-old youth, identified as Srikant Nayak, drowned in Ganjia river in Gamharia on Friday, police said.
Sources said the incident took place when the youth went into the river to take bath. During bathing, he slipped into a diversion leading to hume pipe installed inside the river. Unable to come out of the pipe, Nayak drowned before he could get help from the villagers bathing nearby, sources said.
Local residents rushed to the spot after coming to know of the incident. Police took out the body with the help of local divers. The hume pipe was taken out of the river with the help of an earthmover.
