Seraikela, March 25: Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested a 20 year-old youth, identified as Daniel Nag, and confiscated 2.5 kg of opium from his possession on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at his office here today, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Anand Prakash said a joint team of district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out a surprise checking drive near Mutugora Chowk.
The cops stopped Daniel coming towards the check post from Dalbhanga on a motorcycle. Seeing them, Daniel left his bike and started running with a bag on his shoulder. The on-duty cops caught him after a chase, said the SP.
During a search, cops found opium in Daniel’s bag. Daniel told cops he was taking the narcotic substance to West Bengal for selling it to his clients, said the SP.
Police sent Daniel to judicial custody and lodged an FIR against him under NDPS Act. They said Daniel has an old connection with Maoists and that he earlier used to supply logistics to the outlaws.
