Ranchi: In a significant development, Lalpur police station in Ranchi district, Jharkhand, has apprehended a youth identified as Vivek Kumar Shah from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The arrest comes in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
The Lalpur police took swift action after receiving a complaint and subsequently arrested Vivek Kumar Shah, who has now been incarcerated. The accused was found in possession of a mobile phone containing disturbing evidence. Police discovered photos of girls and screenshots of multiple fake Instagram IDs during the investigation.
The alleged misconduct involved the editing of photos of female students from a reputable educational institute in Ranchi, followed by the distribution of objectionable content on Instagram. The modus operandi reportedly included the accused, Vivek Kumar Shah, assuming a false identity as a friend of a girl on Facebook to initiate the harassment.
Following the complaint, Lalpur police registered a case under both the POCSO Act and the IT Act. The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings underscore the authorities’ commitment to addressing cyber harassment and ensuring the safety of individuals, especially minors.
