Hazaribagh: In a heartbreaking incident that has cast a pall of grief over village Dhanwar, under the Barhi police station in Hazaribagh, two brothers, Satyam Kumar (10 years) and Ujjwal Kumar (5 years), lost their lives due to drowning in a well on Saturday.

The tragic incident unfolded while the brothers were playing near their home after returning from school. Their father, Umesh Kesari, was engaged in his utensil shop in Kariatpur market, while their mother was occupied with paddy harvesting in the fields. The two boys, seemingly innocently playing near the house, went to fetch water from a raw well situated in the backyard to provide for their goat. It was during this endeavor that the unfortunate drowning occurred.

Upon returning home after about an hour, the parents discovered the absence of their children. Despite an extensive search, the boys could not be located, prompting nearby residents to join in the effort. Eventually, using a hook, the lifeless body of Satyam Kumar was retrieved from the well around 1:30 PM. Shortly thereafter, Ujjwal’s body was also recovered from the same well.
The father, Umesh Kesari, in the midst of unimaginable grief, did not attribute blame to anyone for the tragic accident. Reports indicate that there was approximately ten to twelve feet of water in the well at the time of the incident.

The village is engulfed in mourning, with the devastated parents and family members struggling to cope with the loss. Umesh Kesari, now left with only his small daughter of three to four years, who was thankfully with her mother in the paddy field during the incident, has submitted a written application to the Barhi police station. Notably, the application does not hold anyone responsible for the heart-wrenching incident, marking it as a tragic accident.
