Jamshedpur: Season III of The Maverick- a unique industry-academia connect program by Deloitte, the world leading professional services organization – has received great response from management students of leading business schools.
Over 13,500 management students from 54 premier business schools in India participated in the 8-week long programme, and worked in teams to design, propose and defend innovative solutions to current day business issues, across multiple industry sectors. After grueling debates, boardroom presentations and stringent evaluations, Team ‘Sounds Cool’ from XLRI, Jamshedpur emerged as the winners in the third season of the Deloitte Campus Maverick program held in Hyderabad, on the strength of their ability to propose and defend solutions to the complex and real business challenges posed to them in the competition in a simulated business environment.
Team ‘Three Wise Men’ from the Indian institute of Management, Ahmedabad were the runners-up for the programme. The winning team won prize money of INR 3,00,000 and the runners-up team won prize money of INR 1,50,000. The final twelve teams that travelled to Deloitte’s Hyderabad office to compete for The Mavericks 2014 title included some of India’s prestigious B-schools such as Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, Kozhikode, Raipur, Rohtak, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) Bengaluru, Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) Chennai, Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, XLRI – Xavier Institute of Management Jamshedpur and Bhubaneshwar, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Mumbai, Symbiosis College of Management & Human Resources Development, Pune.

According to SV Nathan, Director Talent, Deloitte Consulting India Private Limited, “Today, the ‘asks’ an organization makes of its employees have clearly changed. Instead of simply executing tasks, employees are expected to engage in complex problem-solving – to gener- ate transformative ideas through innovation and knowledge sharing.
Students need to have more intensive focus on ‘higher order’ application and synthesizing skills such as critical thinking, creativity and innovation and bringing these together, which gives firms the competitive advantage critical to their success.
And this is the skill that The Maverick programme encourages students build. ” Conducted in a multistage elimination format, the program saw a shortlist of 60 teams from across India participate in the four regional qualifiers held in the campuses of IIM Lucknow (Noida Campus), Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies Mumbai, XIMB, Bhubaneshwar, and Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai.
