Jamshedpur: A biker died at the busy TMH Roundabout in Bistupur on Monday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a Tata Steel fire engine. The crash triggered panic in the area and blocked traffic for a considerable period.
Police identified the deceased as Md. Husain Akhtar, a resident of PB Road in Jugsalai. Eyewitnesses stated that Akhtar was riding towards the United Club when a fire engine approaching from the Bistupur side suddenly crossed his path near the roundabout. The motorcycle hit the fire engine, causing Akhtar to lose control.
Witnesses added that the bike skidded and slid beneath the fire engine. The vehicle’s wheels then ran over the young rider, inflicting critical injuries. The accident shocked onlookers, and local residents immediately rushed to help the youth while alerting the police.
A police team soon reached the spot. Officers and local residents pulled the injured biker out from beneath the vehicle and immediately rushed him to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in a tempo for emergency treatment.
Hospital doctors fought to save his life, but Akhtar succumbed to his severe injuries during treatment. News of his death devastated his family, and distraught relatives rushed to the hospital upon learning of the accident.
Following the crash, Bistupur police seized both the damaged motorcycle and the fire engine. Investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances behind the collision.
Bistupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Alok Kumar Dubey, confirmed that the critically injured youth died during treatment at the hospital. He stated that police are investigating all aspects of the case, completing legal formalities, and sending the body for a post-mortem examination.
