XLRI Jamshedpur stages Garba to pray for peace in Manipur

Jamshedpur: The Cultural Committee of the PGDM (GM) program, batch of 2023-24, at Xavier School of Management (XLRI), Jamshedpur, staged a unique cultural event, “Garba for Peace,”

The event was not just a celebration of cultural unity but served as a platform to raise awareness about the distressing situation in Manipur and advocate for peace in the state.

Amidst ethnic violence between the Meiteis and Kukis, Manipur has witnessed significant turmoil, resulting in loss of lives, violations of human rights, and damage to properties. The “Garba for Peace” event was a heartfelt response from the XLRI community to stand in solidarity with the people of Manipur and call for an end to the ongoing strife.

The evening commenced with impassioned addresses from key figures, including representatives from the General Management Program, SEAXI (Northeast Regional Committee), SAC (Students Affairs Committee), Father Kuruvilla, Fr. Donald D’Silva (Dean Admin & Finance), and Dr. Paramjyot Singh (Associate Dean Student Affairs).

A solemn prayer for peace led by Fr. Donald D’Silva and the symbolic lighting of candles marked the beginning of the event, signifying a collective plea for unity.

Professor Paramjyot underscored the profound significance of each prayer, emphasizing the privilege of coming together for such a vital cause. Fr. Donald, in his address, eloquently highlighted the symbolism of the “lamp of peace,” stressing its importance in the pursuit of harmony.

The pinnacle of the event was marked by a powerful moment of unity, as the entire crowd observed a minute of silence—a poignant tribute to the people of Manipur, symbolizing unwavering support and solidarity during their time of need.

Kanuj Kohli, General Secretary of the Cultural Committee, stated, “We believe that our unity, expressed through the Garba dance, will send a powerful message of support and solidarity to those affected by the turmoil in Manipur.”

The “Garba for Peace” event at XLRI served as a cultural movement with a profound social impact, using dance as a medium to express hope, unity, and the collective desire for peace in Manipur.
