Jamshedpur: XLRI, one of India’s leading business schools, has launched the Xavier Scholar Entrance Test (XSET), a new national-level examination for aspirants seeking admission to its doctoral programmes — the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM).

The initiative reinforces XLRI’s commitment to fostering not just competent managers but visionary thinkers and academic leaders who can advance the frontiers of management education, research, and ethical leadership.

“India has plenty of managers. What it now needs more than ever are management thinkers and thought leaders who question assumptions, draw insights from research, and make decisions that truly matter,” said an XLRI spokesperson, highlighting the institute’s research-driven approach.

Doctoral Programmes at XLRI

The FPM and EFPM programmes are designed to develop scholar-leaders equipped for careers in academia, research, consulting, and strategic leadership. Over its 75-year legacy, XLRI has combined academic excellence with a commitment to social responsibility, offering specialization in nine key areas including Economics, Finance, HR, Strategy, Marketing, and Organizational Behaviour.

Doctoral scholars benefit from rigorous coursework, seminars, research mentorship, and thesis guidance under globally experienced faculty.

Full-time FPM candidates receive financial support and free on-campus accommodation at XLRI’s scenic 40-acre Jamshedpur campus.

“Doctoral scholars across age groups and experiences come together in an intellectual melting pot at XLRI. We believe in cross-disciplinary dialogue and uninhibited knowledge creation,” noted J. Ajith Kumar, Associate Dean (FPM & Research).

A minimum score of 50% is required to qualify for interviews, though higher cut-offs may apply in specific areas.

Academic credentials and professional experience will also influence shortlisting.

Fostering Research-Driven Leadership

XLRI’s doctoral programmes aim to create leaders who shape management thought, influence business and policy, and promote ethical, human-centred leadership.

Registration for XSET 2026 is currently open.

Aspiring scholars and professionals can apply through XLRI’s official website to embark on a transformative journey toward research-led management leadership.
