XLRI fest ‘Ensemble’ kicks off on a high note

Jamshedpur : Ensemble’14 began on 14th November with theinauguration ceremony held at the Father Prabhu Hall. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr.Alok Kanagat, Vice President, Engineering and Operations at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur.

The event attracted a large turnout, and various dignitaries including Fr. E Abraham, Director of XLRI, Professor Pranabesh Ray, Dean – Academics, Fr. S George, Dean – Administration and Fr. James Santhanam, Associate Dean – Student Affairs were in attendance. Also present were Akarsha KM, the General Secretary of the Student Affairs Council and Pruthvi Bharadwaj, Convenor of Ensemble.

The theme of Ensemble this year is Reinventing Leadership, Redefining Strategies. Mr. Alok Kanagat recounted his personal experiences in working across sectors such as the Public Sector, an MNC, an Indian entrepreneurship firm, and Tata Group companies. He emphasised on the importance of humility, compassion and the ability to take tough decisions and risks for a leader.

The Director welcomed the gathering and talked about the rich legacy and tradition of Ensemble. Professor Pranabesh Ray spoke on his personal bond with XLRI as an alumnus and wished each of the participants the very best.

Father James stressed on the importance of the winners being humble in victory and the losers being gracious in loss. He reaffirmed that it was participation that mattered the most. The Placement Committee of XLRI was felicitated by the Ensemble Core Team for having placed over 360 students in the 2014-16 batch in 3.5 days for their summer internships.

Post the Inauguration Ceremony of Ensemble 2014, the flagship business events in Marketing and HR, Domain events and the flagship Next Generation Leader event began with much fervour. Many cultural events like solo singing, face painting, XLArena by Sports Committee were also held.

The highlights for the day were Kathakali performance organised in association with SPICMACAY Society and Chitrahaar- an evening of dance and Bollywood organised by Dramatics Society. The showstopper event for the first day was a Comedy night featuring Nitin Gupta, aka Rivaldo. The hilarious stand-up comedy act saw great response from the crowd which including faculty, staff and students.

With a legacy of 14 years, Ensemble is amongst the most awaited events in the business school circuit. Ensemble 2014 has participation from over 3500 teams from top 35 B Schools including IIMs, FMS, SIBM, SCMHRD, MDI, TISS and IIFT and industry partners.

Apart from flagship events like Circus Maximus, War of Wits and The Next Gen Leader, Ensemble is also hosting Domain events, Model United Nations and numerous cultural programs. With over 15 Lakhs of prize money at stake across business, cultural and informal competitions, there is much to play for at Ensemble.
