Women�s Desert Safari training begins at Bhuj

Jamshedpur: Organized by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) and the Border Security Force (BSF), the 20 team members of the Great Indian Women Desert Safari have begun their specially designed training program at Bhuj, Gujarat.

This is in preparation of their 2000 kilometers journey across the salt desert on camels starting February 24, 2015. The team consists of 20 women, 14 selected by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation and 6 by the Border Security Force.

The team whilst on this expedition will spread the message of women empowerment, peace and solidarity besides highlighting the importance of education and development along the border area. The endurance and perseverance of these women will be symbolic to the community.

The members will also interact with the villagers throughout the expedition. The Safari is scheduled to conclude on March 24, 2015 and will have its own story of excitement and challenges to narrate to the world. This unique event will be a befitting tribute to the BSF and its 50 years of glorious existence of serving the nation.

Currently undertaking the training, Ms. Bachendri Pal, Chief, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, and leader of the expedition said, �The ongoing training for the members will help not only boost their confidence but also prepare them well for the Dessert Safari along the border terrain.

We are all thrilled to be part of this initiative and will ensure that the goodwill message is conveyed through this journey. We are thankful to the Border Security Force for all the arrangements inclusive of logistics and training and for being a part of this Safari with the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation.�

ML Batham, In-charge of the expedition, said, �We are very pleased to have Bachendri Pal as the mentor for the group. The trainings which have been specifically designed for this team will help the participants to endure the challenges during the course of the desert trail. We wish the team great success in every step of this expedition.�
