872 students awarded degrees, 32 receive gold medals; Muskan Mahato named “Overall Best Graduate”
Jamshedpur, Feb 4: Governor-cum-Chancellor of universities Santosh Kumar Gangwar emphasized the importance of education, calling it the key to success, during the convocation ceremony of Jamshedpur Women’s University held on Tuesday at the university’s campus in Sidhgora. Addressing the students, he encouraged them to continue learning and face challenges with discipline and perseverance. He added that women today are achieving success globally and will play a crucial role in making India a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The convocation was attended by a large number of academicians and students. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anjila Gupta was the special guest, along with Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara, Proctor Dr. Sudhir Kumar Sahu, Registrar Rajendra Jaiswal, Controller of Examinations Rama Subramanian, Finance Officer Dr. Javed Ahmed, Development Officer Dr. Salomi Kujur, Chairman of the Sports and Culture Committee Dr. Sanatan Deep, and IQAC Director Dr. Ratna Mitra.

During the ceremony, 872 students were awarded degrees and medals for their academic excellence. Students from various programs, including graduation, post-graduation, PG vocational courses, B.Ed., and M.Ed., received their degrees.

A total of 32 students were honoured with gold medals for their outstanding academic performance. Muskan Mahato from the Mathematics Department was named the “Overall Best Graduate” for her exceptional achievements and was recognized as the university’s top-performing student. Along with her, 59 other students were awarded medals for securing top positions in their respective subjects in the 2021-24 batch.

Governor encouraged the graduating students to be ready for challenges in their professional journeys. He urged them to face difficulties with strong character, discipline, and sound judgment. He highlighted that the daughters of Jharkhand are not only making the state proud but are also earning recognition on the national and international stages.

Gangwar congratulated the entire university community, including degree recipients, parents, and teachers. He said, “This convocation is a testament to the struggle, knowledge, commitment, and responsibility of the students.” He urged the graduates, to contribute to the development and welfare of not just the university but also society and the nation. “Education empowers you to play an important role in shaping our country’s future,” he remarked.

Governor pays tribute to Ratan tata
During his speech, the Governor paid tribute to Bharat Ratna J.R.D. Tata, who, in 1962, provided the infrastructure and expansive campus that laid the foundation for women’s education in the region. Additionally, he expressed deep respect for the late Ratan Tata, who passed away in 2024, acknowledging his extraordinary contributions to education, social service, and philanthropy.

He emphasized the importance of education in the era of globalization and encouraged students to embrace challenges as opportunities. “You have the potential to bring change,” he said. Citing Nelson Mandela’s famous words, “Education is the most powerful weapon,” Gangwar encouraged the students to use their education for the betterment of the nation.

Shoumini Das receives Dr. Rekha Jha Excellence Award for Economics
As part of the convocation ceremony, Shoumini Das was honored with the Dr. Rekha Jha Excellence Award for Economics. She received a certificate and a cash prize of one lakh rupees. The award, established by Dr. Rekha Jha’s husband, Mr. Varun Jha, will be given annually to the postgraduate topper in Economics in memory of his late wife.

The event saw the release of a special souvenir commemorating the convocation.In her welcome address, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta highlighted the achievements of the university, noting the remarkable contributions of its students to nation-building. “Our students are excelling in various fields, and every year they proudly participate in the Republic Day parade at Rajpath,” she said. Prof. Gupta also shared plans for future university upgrades, emphasizing the institution’s role in producing successful graduates who are making their mark both nationally and internationally. She wished all the students a bright and prosperous future.

Governor inaugurates 500-bed Phulo-Jhano Hostel’, Damodar Senate Hall
Jamshedpur: Governor Santosh Gangwar inaugurated a new ‘Phulo-Jhano Hostel’ and ‘Damodar Senate Hall’ at Jamshedpur Women’s University on Tuesday, just before the university’s second convocation ceremony. The newly constructed hostel, located on the university’s Sidhgora campus, has a capacity of 500 beds. With this addition, the university now has two hostels—one at the old campus in Bistupur and the other at the new campus in Sidhgora.
