Women should be linked to banking for empowerment: Jamshedpur DC

Jamshedpur, April 21: East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav said women should be linked to banking activities in order to ensure their economic empowerment. She made the observation during the review meeting of Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) at the Jamshedpur Collectorate on Thursday.

Jadhav directed the district officials concerned to ensure opening of bank accounts of all Sakhi Mandal members or Didis. She said the local branches of various banks should be contacted for this purpose. She further ordered that more outlets of Palash Mart should be opened across the district. Such outlets should be opened in the offices of all civic bodies, she said.

The DC said 10 business models should be developed to link Sakhi Mandal Didis to sources of livelihood. Such models could be based on poultry business, mushroom production, tomato sauce business, lemon grass oil and Tulsi oil etc, she said.

Jadhav said these business models would help enhance the income of Didis and provide market to their high quality products produced at local level. She said a hatchery unit should be set up in the district. She further said that the district administration was seriously mulling over plans to bring about qualitative change in the standard of living of Sabars. Training programmes specially dedicated to Sabars should be organized to ensure their economic and social uplift, she said.
