Women protest against liquor traders, demand alcohol ban

Jamshedpur, June 23: Women in the city have taken up cudgels against the liquor contractors in Jamshedpur.

Women living the Jugsalai area of the city protested before the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner�s office against the illicit liquor sale�on Thursday.

They also submitted a memorandum to the DC demanding arrest of liquor contractors and demolishing the liquor dens in and around the city.

On Wednesday, women entered the house of liquor trader in ME School Road in Jugsalai and destroyed alcohol kept in a jar.

Liquor trader Mundru had locked the room from outside which the women tried to broke. They also broke the shed made inside the house for drinking alcohol.

Later in the evening, women in large number created havoc at the house of one Pagla situated at Machli Godown Area. However, they did not found any liquor there.

Chandan Jaiswal, president of social organization ‘Hamari Awaz,’ said, �The illegal liquor trade is on the rise in Jugsalai area and we have complained about it to police several times but no action was taken.�

He added that women of the area are very upset and they thought of launching the camping. �

Later, on Thursday, around 150 women took out a rally demanding alcohol ban. ��
