Jamshedpur: Jeevan, a Jamshedpur-based suicide prevention centre, highlighted critical mental health challenges faced by women during Women Mental Health Awareness Month in March. The organisation emphasised that women’s mental well-being needs focused attention due to a combination of biological, social, and emotional factors.
Jeevan stated that women often face unique mental health concerns linked to maternal responsibilities, hormonal changes, and societal expectations. Issues such as postpartum stress, emotional burnout, and anxiety related to caregiving roles affect women across different age groups.
The organisation also pointed out that hormonal fluctuations during life stages such as adolescence, pregnancy, and menopause can impact emotional stability and increase vulnerability to depression and anxiety disorders. Social pressures, gender roles, and limited access to mental health support further intensify these challenges.
Jeevan observed that many women hesitate to seek help due to stigma, lack of awareness, or because they prioritise family responsibilities over their own well-being. The centre stressed the need to create safe spaces for dialogue, promote counselling services, and encourage early intervention.
To strengthen mental health advocacy, Jeevan continues to conduct awareness sessions, provide counselling support, and run community outreach programmes in Jamshedpur. Through these efforts, the organisation aims to ensure that women receive proper care, understanding, and support.
Jeevan also urged families and communities to actively recognise early signs of distress and create a supportive environment where women feel comfortable addressing their mental health concerns.
The centre offers in-person befriending services daily from 10 am to 6 pm at its office located at 25 Q Road, Bistupur, Jamshedpur. It also provides emotional support through telephone and WhatsApp via helpline numbers 9297777499 and 9297777500, ensuring immediate assistance for those facing emotional distress.
