Woman duped of gold lockets by fraudsters in Seraikela

Seraikela, Nov 27: A 66-year-old woman, Sunayana Devi, was duped of her gold ornaments by two unidentified youths in Indratandi Mohalla of Ward No. 7 under the Saraikela Nagar Panchayat area. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has been captured on CCTV. The victim has filed a written complaint at the Seraikela police station, seeking action against the culprits.

According to the complaint, the incident happened around 11:30 AM when two young men arrived at her home on a bike, posing as representatives of a company selling products for cleaning brass and bronze utensils. To gain her trust, the men demonstrated their product by cleaning a brass lota. One of them noticed the gold locket around Sunayana Devi’s neck and offered to clean it as well. Trusting them, the elderly woman handed over two gold lockets, weighing approximately 5 grams in total.

The youths claimed the lockets needed to be placed in a chemical solution for cleaning and sealed them in a packet. They advised the woman to open the packet after 15 minutes and fled the scene. Upon opening the packet, the woman discovered that her gold lockets were missing. Realizing she had been cheated, she immediately approached the Saraikela police station to lodge a complaint.

The police are analyzing CCTV footage from the area to identify the culprits. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of elderly residents and the tactics employed by fraudsters. An investigation is underway to apprehend the suspects.
