Jamshedpur: A tragic incident was reported from Shastrinagar under Kadma police station area, where a married woman, identified as Geeta Sona, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police sources, Geeta’s husband, Sonu Singh, was away at work when the incident took place.
At home were only their two young children—aged seven and two-and-a-half years.
On returning home, Sonu reportedly found his wife hanging and immediately informed her maternal family.
The family arrived and brought the body down, but in the meantime, Sonu fled the scene on the pretext of arranging a vehicle.
Geeta’s mother, Krishna Bag, told police that her daughter had fallen in love with Sonu around seven years ago, when he worked as a street vendor.
The couple had eloped to Delhi and got married there. About eight months ago, they returned to Jamshedpur with their two children.
Family members alleged that the couple had a quarrel on Monday night, after which Geeta took the extreme step.
On receiving information, Kadma police reached the spot, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination on Wednesday.
The exact cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the husband, who is absconding.
