Jamshedpur: Winter seems to be taking a backseat in several parts of Jharkhand over the past two days as minimum temperatures rose significantly due to persistent cloud cover.
On Thursday, the minimum temperature climbed to as high as 16 degrees Celsius in several parts of Kolhan, including Jamshedpur. Today, Jamshedpur recorded a slightly cooler minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi and Daltonganj both registered around 13 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi Centre had earlier predicted light rainfall in the northern and western parts of the state over the weekend. This rainfall is expected to be triggered by a western disturbance passing through the mid-troposphere at an altitude of 5.8 kilometers above sea level.
Hazy skies and cloud cover were observed across multiple locations today, contributing to the warmer-than-usual night temperatures.
According to the IMD forecast, the minimum temperature is likely to rise further over the next 48 hours. However, a gradual drop in temperatures is expected thereafter, signaling a return to cooler winter conditions.
Residents, particularly in the southern districts, have already noticed the sudden spike in night temperatures. Many have started shedding their warm clothing, reflecting the unexpected shift in weather patterns.
While the rise in temperatures has brought temporary relief from the chill, meteorologists caution that the situation is likely to normalize after the passage of the western disturbance.
