Will Hemant Soren retain crown or BJP returns to power in Jharkhand

Jharkhand has seen 13 chief ministers in 24 years

Ranchi: The Election Commission has sounded the political bugle in Jharkhand, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle that could reshape the state’s future.

The state will go to the polls in two phases—on November 13 and 20, 2024. As the date draws closer, the burning question on everyone’s mind is: Who will emerge victorious in this dramatic contest and take the reins as Jharkhand’s next Chief Minister?

Will Hemant Soren hold on to his crown, or will a new leader rise from the political dust?

With Jharkhand’s history of changing chief ministers, anything is possible. In the past 24 years, the state has seen 13 different chief ministers, with Shibu Soren, Arjun Munda, and Hemant Soren each taking the top job three times. The political winds in Jharkhand have always been unpredictable, and this election promises to be no different.

The BJP, under Raghubar Das, had a historic run from 2014 to 2019 when he became the first chief minister to complete a full five-year term.

However, the party stumbled in the 2019 elections, losing to the coalition led by Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Now, as Hemant Soren eyes another term, the stakes are higher than ever. Adding to the drama is his arrest earlier this year in a land scam case, though he’s back in the chief minister’s chair after a brief stint in jail.

The political landscape is fraught with uncertainty as Jharkhand prepares to vote. Could this election bring another twist to the state’s tumultuous political history? All eyes are on the upcoming polls, as the fight for the chief minister’s seat intensifies.

Both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the INDIA alliance are claiming to be prepared for the mega fight next month, asserting that the people are with them.

The BJP, aiming to win the upcoming elections, has positioned Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the state to select the best strategies to bring down the Hemant Soren-led government in the coming elections.

Sarma, speaking to the media, said, “The people of Jharkhand, in this election, will vote for the BJP and its alliance partners. The state has seen how the Hemant government was involved in scams and promoted Bangladeshi infiltration to win elections.”

On the other hand, the JMM-led INDIA alliance, hoping to maintain its winning streak, has largely questioned the BJP’s motives and accused the saffron brigade of trying to win elections through a divide-and-rule policy.

Hemant Soren, along with Gandey legislator Kalpana Soren, is vigorously campaigning across the state, countering the BJP’s claims and accusations.

In his addresses, Soren is mainly promoting the schemes initiated by his government, stating, “BJP leaders are making false claims and trying to divide the people.”
