Jamshedpur, May 27: A group of wild elephants has taken shelter in the forest between Muturkham and Chingara Panchayat in Baharagora block, East Singhbhum district, causing widespread fear among the villagers. The herd, estimated to be around 25 elephants, has been moving from the forest towards the village at night, prompting villagers to stay vigilant throughout the night.
Recent incidents have heightened fears, with villagers being forced to hide in their homes during the evenings. The situation became dire on May 25, when Surendranath Hansdha, the village head of Gobarbani, was killed by the elephants while on his way to vote at the Dholabeda polling station. This tragic event has left the nearby communities even more terrified.
Both rural and forest department officials are closely monitoring the movements of the elephants. In response to the growing concern, villagers are urging the Forest Department to implement necessary safety measures to protect them from further harm
