Jamshedpur, Dec. 13: The steel city woke up to a freak weather on Saturday, with overcast skies and light showers, courtesy a western disturbance in northern India coupled with the residual impact of the cyclonic circulation over south Bay of Bengal, which had recently resulted in havoc in Tamil Nadu.
Officials informed that a western disturbance passing through Jammu and Kashmir and Shimla, coupled with the residual effect of the cyclonic circulation over the southern Bay, has impacted Jharkhand’s weather. Light rain is expected at a few places within the next 48 hours.
A.K. Sen, the director of the Patna Meteorological Centre, said that the western disturbance had resulted in an induced cyclonic circulation. But, more than the western disturbance the residual impact of the recent cyclonic circulation over south Bay of Bengal is impacting weather conditions of Jharkhand and Bihar.
Heavy moisture incursion is taking place in Jharkhand and the neighbouring states from the Bay of Bengal due to the residual impact of the atmospheric circulation,” he explained.
Weathermen in Sonari said that the western disturbance had intersected with easterly winds resulting in light drizzle at some places.
Weathermen said the chill will take a pause for 3-4 days before the minimum temperature starts falling again.
Reports of light drizzle (which was not measurable) poured in from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Daltonganj, Khunti, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Simdega, Koderma and neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhum districts.
The night readings witnessed a rise in most parts of the state on Saturday. Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 14.6C, against 10.7C on Friday.
The minimum readings witnessed a rise of four degrees Centigrade in the state capital. Today’s minimum temperature in Ranchi was five notches above the normal.
It may be mentioned here that Jamshedpur is witnessing a maximum temperature of average 30C-32C, which is equally warmer.
“I have been coming to the city from past ten years. I have witnessed that weather has changed a lot. Earlier October end used to make people shiver but now in mid December people hardly require woolen clothes,” said Yeshi a trader at Tibet Market.
“Our quality of the woolen clothes is guaranteed and people have been coming here for a long time. Their goodwill is known to all as we have something new every year people look forward to us.
However due to recession and warmer climate our market has witnessed dip in footfalls this season,” said Sangay, one of the sellers.
