150 crore people all over the world deprived of clean drinking water

Jamshedpur, Dec. 13: Water sources cleanliness drive was inaugurated on Sunday at Shaheed Ganga Narayan Singh Community Hall situated next to Sonari Doumuhani.

Organised by Yugantar Bharati the campaign was jointly inaugurated by Manoj Kumar Singh, senior member of Yugantar Bharati, environmentalist Dr. KK Sharma, Dr. Kavita Parmar, professor at Central University, Subodh Srivastav and Mukul Mishra.

Addressing the gathering, Manoj Singh said, the rivers, ponds, wells and wtare falls have become polluted due to mining activities and industrial waste. Rivers like Damodar, Subarnrekha, Kharkai have become smelly sewer and rivers have been narrowed due to encroachment. Ponds are disappearing from villages and bastis and to make the water sources pollution free and for their protection, Yugantar Bharati launched Damodar Bachao Aandolan in the year 2004, Singh added.

Environmentalist Dr. KK Sharma, said, water is the mainstay of life and one canít image a second without it. Three-fourth of the earth is water but its drinking form is limited. According to reports, Worldís 150 crore people donít get pure water to drink and itís high time that one should seriously work for purification of water sources and attract attention of government for solution of this ghastly problem.

On 14 and 15 December volunteers will recognize the most polluted water sources and will collect water samples from various water sources, examine the level of pollution and ascertain the reasons behind the water pollution.

On 16 and 17 December the findings will subsequently be submitted to the concerned officials as well as the anti-pollution board. On December 20 state wide cleanliness drive of water sources will be organized and Environment Panchayat will be held to prepare blueprint for observing 2016 as water source cleanliness year.

At the event people from nearby areas participated and pledged to help keep water sources bnear them pollution free and will help Yugantar Bharati in keeping cleanliness of the water sources.

At the program Mukul Mishra, Subodh Srivatstav, Sukhdev Singh, Dr. Kavita, Chitranajan Verma, Shashank SInha, Sanjeev Sinha, Virendra Singh, Vikas Singh, Navneet Singh, Reeta Singh, Neeru Singh, Mahaveer Singh, Prashant Poddar, Ashok Singh, Ajay Rajak, Chunnu Bhumij, Abu Ashraf, Rakesh Singh, Deepu Singh, Manish Pandey, KP Singh, Gopal Jaiswal, Rajesh Singh, Rajkumar Shah, Suranjan Rai, Umashankar Singh, Nityanand Sinha, Santosh Chouhan, Pramod Sharma, Surga Dutta, Amar Singh, Ramshakal Tiwary, Guddu Singh, Sunil Bari, Umashankar Mandal along with several locals of the area were present.
