Water supply disrupted in 1,140 Jamshedpur houses due to motor fault

Jamshedpur, Jan 20: Water supply has been disrupted in 1,140 houses of Baghbera Housing Colony since January 19, due to a technical issue involving the bearing breakage of the motor installed in the water tank. According to local residents, this fault has caused the ongoing water shortage in the area.

Subodh Jha, President of Baghbera Mahanagar Vikas Samiti and District BJP Headquarters Incharge, raised the issue with SDO Mahendra Baitha from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Adityapur. SDO Baitha confirmed that the disruption was caused by a mechanical fault with the motor and its bearing.

A team of mechanical engineers began repair work on the water tank from 12 noon on Monday. The repairs were completed by 5 pm, after which the tank was refilled. Water supply was fully restored by around 8:30 pm, following a three-hour filling process.

The SDO clarified that the issue was unrelated to the Adityapur Mod Filter Plant and was confined to the Baghbera Housing Colony water tank motor. Mukhiya Rajkumar Gaur, Deputy Mukhiya Santosh Thakur, KD Munda, Deepak Dubey and Vinod Ram were actively involved in overseeing the repair work.

Subodh Jha also noted that the water supply to around 300 houses in the colony has been erratic for the past two years. He emphasized that inspections will be carried out to address this ongoing issue. The SDO also assured that the work at the filter plant, which had been delayed due to workers’ leave for the Tusu festival and Makar Sankranti, will resume in the next two to four days.
