Jamshedpur, May 31: As the relentless heatwave grips the region, exacerbating the daily struggles of residents, a pressing water crisis looms large. The plummeting groundwater levels have exacerbated the situation, leaving both the common populace and the affluent grappling with acute water scarcity.
Communities in Baghbera, Kitadih, and Ghaghidih areas find themselves particularly vulnerable, with an alarming 90 percent of hand pumps rendered dysfunctional due to the receding groundwater levels. The severity of the crisis is emphasised by the fact that residents are now left yearning for every precious drop of water.
In an effort to alleviate the water woes, on-going construction work for the Baghbera water supply scheme is underway. However, the sluggish pace of the project’s implementation has left locals disillusioned. Despite nine years of endeavor, the completion of the water supply scheme remains elusive, exacerbating the distress of the affected communities.
Expressing their anguish, residents have appealed to the district administration to expedite the languid progress of the water supply scheme. Despite repeated pleas, the sluggish pace of construction persists, leaving residents feeling neglected and abandoned amidst their struggle for access to this basic necessity.
