Jamshedpur: Election Commission has permitted voters to carry any one of 12 documents specified by it for identification purpose. Besides, voter ID cards, a voter can carry passport, driving licence, service ID cards issued by public sector units of Central and state governments, photo IDs issued by public limited companies, passbooks with photo issued by banks and post offices, PAN cards, smart cards issued by RGI under NPR, MGNREGS job cards, health insurance smart cards issued by labour ministry, pension documents with photo, ID cards issued by MP, MLA and Vidhan Parshad and Aadhar Card. The voters may use any one of these documents provided they have their names in the electoral list, said Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar on Saturday.
In a bid to spread awareness among voters, a tree model with 12 ID alternatives mentioned on its leaves has been installed at Jamshedpur Collectorate. The DC said the district administration wants to ensure that all genuine voters are able to exercise their voting rights on 12th May. He appealed to voters to take time out for voting so that the democracy is strengthened.
