Vocational training institute opened at community centre

Jamshedpur, Dec 17: The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) vocational institute was inaugurated today at Ram Das Bhatta Community Centre by Sunil Bhaskaran, Dy Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel.

Bhaskaran addressed the students and expressed his happiness over the fact that the institute has been set up in a short duration of six months from the time the idea was conceived.

He also assured the students that ATDC courses (of 6 and 12 months duration) will provide them with employment opportunities and perhaps change their lives for better.

Biren Bhuta, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel, also present on the occasion, urged the students to take full advantage of this opportunity and enable themselves to become successful entrepreneur in their lives.

Working as an employability enabler, Tata Steel runs skill development programmes to enable women gain skills to get jobs as well as become self-employed. The objective is to transform unskilled human resource to a productive resource pool for growth and societal development.

In this direction, as part of its women empowerment program, Urban Services department of Tata Steel has collaborated with Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) to train women from urban community on an advanced stitching technology course in the operational area of Jamshedpur.

The course will cover subjects such as Fabric Study, Apparel Production Technology, and Merchandising etc. A total of 24 women have been enrolled in the first batch.

Sanjay, Head, Urban Services, Tata Steel Areef Nadeem, Principal & State Head, ATDC as well as officials of Urban Services attended the programme.
