Vocational education enhancements introduced in Jharkhand Government schools

Ranchi: In a progressive move to bolster vocational education in government schools, the Jharkhand Education Project Council is set to launch internships, industrial visits, and guest lectures. Currently, the state offers 11 professional education programs to vocational students. To enhance students’ practical exposure, they will be sent to various institutions for internships, focusing on job role priorities.

The initiative mandates that internship opportunities will be exclusively available for vocational students in grades 11 and 12. Headmasters have been instructed to develop proposals for internships within government institutions if the need arises.

Vocational internships to begin in 446 schools
Vocational internships will soon be integrated into 446 state schools. Before students embark on their internships, school management will conduct workplace assessments. These evaluations will ensure the safety and suitability of the workplace, especially for female students. Furthermore, the school will establish clear guidelines regarding travel and accommodation arrangements for the participating students.
The headmaster and vocational trainer will maintain ongoing oversight, ensuring students are actively engaged in their internships.
Mandatory 80-hour internship requirement
The State Coordinator of the program, Swapnil Kujur, has emphasized the need for students to complete a mandatory 80 hours of internship. Bank accounts will be opened for vocational students, enabling funds to be transferred to the students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Students participating in internships will receive a stipend of Rs 1200, along with a certificate upon completion of their training. Vocational teachers will also be incentivized with Rs 75 per student to support students during internships and vocational education.
Industrial visits and guest lectures

Officials have underscored the importance of conducting industrial visits with a focus on education rather than turning them into celebratory picnics. Each school has been allocated Rs 7500 for industrial visits, and a minimum one-hour guest lecture is encouraged. Moreover, schools are urged to establish a “Wall of Fame” to showcase their achievements to the public effectively.
