Jamshedpur, June 25: On the occasion of World Vitiligo Day on June 25, B R Seva Sadan, Gadabasa, Kalimati Road, organized a free camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and provided free medicine and counseling to more than 70 people suffering from vitiligo. Dr. Rajeev Thakur and Dr. RP Thakur of IADVL and Association of Cutaneous, treated the patients.
On the occasion Dr. Rajeev Thakur said, “We have invited famous Mumbai-based dermatologist Dr. Rajesh Kumar to Jamshedpur, who will make the people aware of new advances and hold discussions. Dr. Rajesh will also meet the patients at BR Seva Sadan on Sunday, June 26, from 9 a.m.
Dr. Thakur further said, the disease is not genetic, is treatable and doesn’t spread by coming in physical contact with the patients. This disease occurs due to absence of color melanin pigment in the skin.
“The disease is curable by taking medicines, photo therapy and surgery through which white skin is removed by dermabrejan and fresh skin from patients thigh is put in area of the body which had white skin,” said Dr. Thakur, adding, “A new technique has also been developed which is named melanocyte Cell Culture (MCC) and the treatment is available only in metro cities.
However, it will be available for the first time in Bihar-Jharkhand at the BR Seva Sadan.”
